At the Edge of a New Canvas
We have started a new year, and I am reminded of a new canvas - the moment before laying down the first colour, the first brushstroke.
A sacred moment. One that needs silence and consideration, but also invites a near-meditative state.
It also reminds me of abstract art as a whole, or of poetry. It can seem puzzling at first - its meaning not always clear, the intentions of the artist or poet sometimes elusive.
Do I always know my intentions? Do I always hold them close to my heart? I am certainly trying to, yet I still fail at times. Are there new intentions for this year? Will I remember them throughout the year and truly hold on to them?
To me, so much of this is about pausing - about giving space, room, and time. If we can pause, open ourselves to the experience, and allow time to do its work, we are invited to find our own way in. There is a gentle freedom in this: the freedom to see, feel, and understand things in a way that is entirely our own.
Much like the fresh promise of a new year, abstract art reminds us that we have the opportunity to discover something unique and meaningful - simply by allowing ourselves to look a little closer, to embrace the journey, to find beauty in abstraction, and through that, our own connection.
Here’s to finding inspiration and beauty in unexpected places, and to cherishing the personal connections we make along the way.
May this year bring you moments of discovery, creativity, and joy.
With love,
Kirana xx
