Understanding Quality, History, and the Investment in Original Art

“Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does the better.”

André Gide

Why would you buy an original artwork?

And why do I, as the artist, ensure you’re able to enjoy that artwork for generations to come?

Why might you choose to own one, or more, of my pieces?

Because you are likely making a good investment.

One of the reasons is that I’ve been working as a professional artist for nearly 20 years. Over that time, the value of my paintings has steadily and consistently increased. I’ve grown, not only in skill and experience but also as a person.

Throughout my journey, I’ve explored many mediums. I love experimenting with materials, embracing new techniques and evolving my style. I challenge myself constantly at the studio table and sometimes, my visitors challenge me too, offering reflections that deepen my process.

Seeing the world through my artist’s eyes, I’ve become ever more attuned to colour, form, space and shape, and the hidden possibilities they hold. That alertness opens the door to greater tenderness, to a deeper affection for our world and the natural beauty within it. It leads me, ultimately, toward greater generosity in life and art.

The medium I’ve used most throughout the years is acrylic paint.
As my experience has grown and the value of my work along with it, I’ve come to understand the importance of using only the highest quality materials.

Artist-grade acrylics contain more pigment and have a refined binder composition. The result? Brighter, more vibrant colours with greater tinting strength and depth. Over time, I’ve also begun creating more and more of my own hues, mixing raw pigment to produce colours as I work.

Each morning, my practice begins with this mixing. It’s a quiet, meditative ritual - a gentle start to the day. And, like the mood of each day, the colours sometimes come together effortlessly. Other days, they elude me, no matter how hard I try.

I work on high quality canvases, especially linen - which not only prevents fading and deterioration over time but also offers a tactile, grounded experience. I love the feel of linen in my hands, the sense that the artwork is almost growing from within it, guided by instinct rather than sight.

Knowing my materials are reliable and consistent means I can focus wholly on technique and vision, without the distraction of worrying whether my tools will fail me.
By using archival grade materials, I can ensure my work maintains both its aesthetic and financial value over time.

Ultimately, investing in high quality materials is an investment in my craft, and in the longevity and vibrancy of each artwork I create.

With lots of love,
