I would love to tell you a little about some of the paintings currently exhibited at Bendigo Bank throughout May and June, and to encourage you to ask me about any of the works I haven’t spoken about today.

I have chosen these particular pieces for their sense of expansiveness, just in case you are needing space. A feeling of openness. A big open heart. A little more freedom.

“A Lot of Sky Around Me”

A sweeping, expansive work where the canvas almost feels too small for the world it contains.

Painted with broad gestures, movement swirls across the surface like gusts of wind you can almost feel. The sky stretches endlessly in shades of blue, green, yellow, orange, and white, softened into layers of luminous greys that invite you to breathe deeply and let your thoughts drift.

This piece was inspired by those windy walks that stay with you long after they have ended, when the air feels so sharp and clear there is no option but to reset, to feel fresh, to begin again.

Standing before this work, I hope you might feel that same openness. That little strip of land beneath your feet, the vastness above, and the gentle reminder to pause, look up, and breathe.

“Mediterranean Impressions”

Born from watching the horizon from my studio in the south of France, alongside long periods of quiet contemplation and persistent exploration, these two artworks began as a single canvas.

It was only once the original work was cut apart that their true essence emerged.

Almost as though the act of separation gave each piece a fresh breath, they now stand independently, luminous, spontaneous, and full of movement. Each carries the fleeting feeling of loose sketches, shifting light, and moments too transient to fully capture.

The warmth of Mediterranean light remains woven through them, alongside the quiet poetry of autumn landscapes.

These are not simply records of a place, but impressions of it. A reminder that sometimes beauty only fully reveals itself when given space.

“Are We Walking Into the Dark or Out of It?”

In the hush of twilight, where shadows deepen and the edges of the world begin to soften, a landscape unfolds in untamed strokes of deep blue.

This is a place where the horizon is never fixed. Where sky seems to dissolve into earth, and earth rises in waves and whorls as though the land itself is breathing.

Indigo, sapphire, midnight blue, and violet move together in a restless rhythm, creating something both familiar and unknown.

There is wildness here. A sense of freedom. A landscape untethered.

And yet, within all of that movement, there is also calm.

A quiet clearing within the storm. A place where the intensity softens into gentle greens and traces of light. Somewhere still enough to feel sacred.

This work holds that tension for me, between chaos and peace, wildness and tranquillity, uncertainty and hope.

It asks a simple question, but perhaps not one with a simple answer.

Are we walking into the dark, or out of it?

If one of these works speaks to you, I would love to hear what you see.

And if there is another painting from the exhibition you are curious about, please ask. I always find it fascinating how differently each artwork is experienced, and the conversations that unfold because of that are often one of the most meaningful parts of exhibiting.

With love,
Kirana xx
